So what steps can you take to add an extra layer of security to your property without breaking the bank?
Dummy CCTV Camera.
These can be purchased online for as little as £3.00 and come with flashing led light and fake infrared led lights. While you know that the dummy is not a working camera, potential intruders do not and therefore are less likely to target your home. A yellow sign with the wording “this property is protected by CCTV” also goes a long way and brings the dummy camera to the attention of those snooping around.
Get a Dog.
While cats may be some people’s choice of pet, have you ever heard a burglar being scared away by a cat meowing at it? No! If you don’t have a dog and are not in the position of getting one, you can buy a bark sensor that will play a barking recording inside the property when the sensor is tripped outside. This is usually enough to cause any trespasser to flee quickly.
Sensor lights.
If you want to add an extra layer of security that works perfectly time after time, get a motion sensor light outdoors. These are activated when a warm blooded animal or person passes in front of its sensor range and turns on bright floodlights. Not only do potential intruders think someone has spotted them and turned on the lights, it also lights up the entire outside area giving them nowhere to hide.
Door & Window Alarms.
Other great things to add to your home are door and window alarms. These alarms are triggered when the magnetic attachment is disconnected when the door or window is opened. The resulting ear piercing siren is enough to deter any would be intruder and alerts you to any break in. If possible, also have interior window and door locks added to further lock down your home.
A final thing you can do is use gravel or slate chips in your gardens which create noise when being walked on. Grass allows for people to approach silently and therefore makes it easier for intruders to reach your home unnoticed.
