The Most Secure Places In The World
The world is full of secrecy and places that are off limits to us mere mortals, many of which are purely the reserve of royals, world leaders, and those with power or money to access them. There are some obviously secure places such as Alcatraz prison, which is almost impossible to enter or leave unless you are doing it by the official route. Of course, there are also the hundreds of secure and private bunkers designed for presidents and royals in the event of a nuclear war.
So, what are the world’s most secure places? And how many of them have you heard of before? Read on to discover all you need to know about the securest locations in the world.
1. Vatican Street Archive, Rome, Italy.
This building was constructed more than 400 years ago and holds some of the world’s oldest religious documents and texts, including written letters from Michelangelo and a handwritten transcript of the Galileos trial. Why so much secrecy needs to be involved around religion is anyone's guess, but accessing these documents are almost a certain impossibility.
2. Federal Reserve Bank, New York, USA.
The federal reserve bank of New York City is one of the world’s most impenetrable buildings and is where more than 7000 tons of pure gold are held 80 foot beneath New York streets. The vault consists of a Ninety-ton steel cylinder encompassed in 140 tons of pure concrete and cement.
3. Svalbard Global Seed Vault, Norway
Unlike other military and governmental structures, the global seed vault holds a commodity that in reality is so much more precious than all of the gold and diamonds in the world. The seed bank holds more than 930 thousand different species of plant seed, which, in the event of a nuclear war would be used to repopulate the world’s plant and tree populations.
4. Demilitarised Zone, North Korea.
The secret state of North Korea is so heavily guarded that it can be impossible to enter or leave without official visas and paperwork, and the most secure part of North Korea is the demilitarised zone between north and south. While the zone is demilitarised, anyone who tries to cross either way will usually meet their maker after being shot at from both sides.
